Gold Coast CALS is a one-day simulation course on the management of the deteriorating cardiothoracic surgery patient. We have a generous balance of lectures, practical sessions and graded simulations that suit all skill sets. CALS is designed for any nursing or medical staff that work in the peri-operative, ICU, cardiothoracic or ward call settings.

Some specific skills covered include:
- Systematic assessment and management of the deteriorating patient
- The CALS protocol
- Emergency re-sternotomy, internal cardiac massage and defibrillation
- Emergency pacing and pacemaker trouble shooting (trans-cutaneous and temporary pacemaker)
- Teamwork essentials
