Russell joined Gold Coast Hospital Foundation in July 2023, bringing a wealth of experience in senior and executive leadership positions across a variety of sectors including education, health, performing arts, environment, disability services and overseas aid. With more than 25 years of marketing and fundraising expertise in the not-for-profit sector, he has proven himself as a versatile external engagement leader.

Russell was previously the Director of Advancement at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), where for 10 years he successfully led fundraising, advancement services, alumni relations and industry engagement activities, achieving remarkable philanthropic goals.

Under Russell’s leadership, UniSC developed and implemented award-winning strategic fundraising programs including giving days, major events, regular giving, and major gifts. Russell also played an instrumental role in successfully securing significant multi-million-dollar funding for UniSC’s first mental health research institute.

Prior to this role, Russell held leadership positions, including General Manager of Marketing and Fundraising at Youngcare, Director of Public Affairs/General Manager of Marketing and Fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Queensland, and Director of Development at Moreton Bay College.
